To an Unknown God …. start by Seeking God – Part 3 of 8

“So Paul, standing in the center of the Areopagus, said: “Men of Athens, I observe [with every turn I make throughout the city] that you are very religious and devout in all respects. Now as I was going along and carefully looking at your objects of worship, I came to an altar with this inscription: ‘TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.’ Therefore what you already worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. The God who created the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, because it is He who gives to all [people] life and breath and all things. And He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their lands and territories. This was so that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grasp for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us. For in Him we live and move and exist [that is, in Him we actually have our being], as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we also are His children.’” – ACTS‬ ‭17:22-28‬ ‭AMP‬‬
On an altar in Athens: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD

How well do you know God?

An Atheist believes that Nothing is a God, did you know that?

The belief that there was nothing and nothing happened to nothing and then nothing magically exploded for no reason, creating everything and then a bunch of everything magically rearranged itself for no reason what so ever into self-replicating bits which then turned into dinosaurs. It makes perfect sense.

Do you believe that your life is an accident or on purpose?

Why did God determine the times that you should live (year) and their lands (where you should live – the country where you reside say South Africa)?

* So you will seek Him?
* Will you perhaps reach out for Him and find Him?

Wow so God planned the perfect time and place for you to live so you can find him.

It is not an accident that you are reading this!

God orchestrated this that you might find Him.

Do you worry … or do you Seek God? – Part 2 of 8

See video
Don’t we all love that song, “Don’t worry, be happy” by Bobby McFerrin.

It just don’t have a nice vibe, but the words is so applicable to our daily lives and also has a spiritual significance.

Worry definition:

  • To feel uneasy or concerned about something; be troubled.
  • To cause to feel anxious, distressed, or troubled.

So what do we normally worry about?

  • Money.
  • Our jobs.
  • Our kids.
  • Retirement.
  • Not being happy.
  • Not having peace.
  • Not having a purpose in life.
  • Not leaving a legacy.

Let’s look at what the most famous person in the world said. Healed people, created food, walked on water, brought people back from the dead, his words was recorded are written down although He wrote none, compassion, dying, rising from the dead, called God by men, forgiving sins & called the Messiah (Saviour). Let’s hear what He has to say.

““Therefore I tell you, stop being worried or anxious (perpetually uneasy, distracted) about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, as to what you will wear. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow [seed] nor reap [the harvest] nor gather [the crops] into barns, and yet your heavenly Father keeps feeding them. Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by worrying can add one hour to [the length of] his life? And why are you worried about clothes? See how the lilies and wildflowers of the field grow; they do not labor nor do they spin [wool to make clothing], yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory and splendor dressed himself like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive and green today and tomorrow is [cut and] thrown [as fuel] into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! Therefore do not worry or be anxious (perpetually uneasy, distracted), saying, ‘What are we going to eat?’ or ‘What are we going to drink?’ or ‘What are we going to wear?’ For the [pagan] Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; [but do not worry,] for your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right–the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also. “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” – ‭‭MATTHEW‬ ‭6:25-34‬ ‭AMP‬‬

What do you learn from this? …

Have you ever see a bird worrying? We think it frivolous. I think that is what we are like when we worry.

Have you ever thought that you are a infidel by worrying?

Do you believe that God cares about you. Can’t a God who is all powerful take take of you because He loves you. They say worry is practical athiesm.

So if we should not worry, what should we do?

Seek first His kingdom not yours. That might be the reason we worry. That is not all, we should seek His righteousness, meaning being right with God.

So what is the solution for us not to worry; put our trust in God and make His family our first priority.

Seeking happiness, peace, love, fulfillment,…. or Seeking God – Part 1 of 8

What is the purpose of life?

Who is God?

What is love?

How will I find happiness, peace and fulfillment?

Questions that we all ponder about in life, don’t we!

Let’s look at a definition, shall we?

Seeking’s definition:

  • The act of searching for something; “a quest for ???”
  • Earnest and conscientious activity intended to do or accomplish something.

What is your quest in life? What are you looking to achieve in life?
Lets look at a verse or two in the most famoust book of all times, 6 billion copies sold, over 40 authors, 168 000 is distribted per day. Have you read the block buster?

“How blessed and favored by God are those whose way is blameless [those with personal integrity, the upright, the guileless], Who walk in the law [and who are guided by the precepts and revealed will] of the LORD. Blessed and favored by God are those who keep His testimonies, And who [consistently] seek Him and long for Him with all their heart.” – ‭PSALM‬ ‭119:1-2‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Blessed mean superlative happy. Now substitute blessed with “superlatively happy” is “your name”. Has a good ring to it doesn’t it!!!!

Ok now that we have established where happiness comes from. Let’s establish the conditions for it.

Mmmm. A blameless life!!! Wowww who of us can claim that one?

Ok second who walks in His laws / testimonies. Ok so obviously there is my law and then there is God’s. Does yours make you happy??? Why are you reading this anyway?

And the last but not the least; seek Him with all, your heart. What do you really love? Soccer, nature, holidays, …? I guess it is like falling in love with that first love of your life. You just can’t get enough of that person!!! Does it say half ur heart? No all of it!!! No 95% or high averagers allowed, only 100% candidates. Real commitment hey? Are you up for it?

Remember happiness is the byproduct not the end goal. 😉 😉

So, is that the way you study your Bible? With all your heart? Some say it is God’s love letter to us. Sounds a bit cheesy? There may be some truth in that! Be one of the famous 6 billion who has a bible and has read it!

Bearing – The fruit of The Kingdom

What is the fruit of the kingdom ?

It can be great relationships at depicted in Acts 2:42 where they were devoted to the apostles teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread and to prayer.

It can be great personal attributes as listed in Gal 5:21-22, love, joy, peace, patience.

But I really think it meant combining the last two in the fruit of people knowing Christ and becoming disciple’s that are the real fruit.

Jesus said in His own words that He came to seek and save what was lost Luk 19:10.

Paul wrote that God the Father wants all people to come to the knowledge of the truth and to be saved 1 Tim 2:4.

So to sum up what Solomon said, the wisest guy that ever lived on the earth except Jesus who is God in the flesh, Prov 11:30 talks about the fruit of the righteous is a tree of light and he who wins souls is wise.

Am I bearing the fruit of the Kingdom? Am I about my Fathers business, like Jesus said.

What would Jesus say about my farm and my fellow workers? Do we produce the crop that Jesus expects to get?

“Praise the LORD. I will extol the LORD with all my heart in the council of the upright and in the assembly.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.” – ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭111:1, 10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Praise the LORD. Blessed are those who fear the LORD, who find great delight in his commands. Their children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in their houses, and their righteousness endures forever. Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous. Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice.
They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the LORD.” – ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭112:1-5, 7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Application

If I fear God I am wise. How will I do that? I obey His precepts. I will also find great delight in His commands. How is my memorising scripture going ?

Psalm 109 – 110

“My God, whom I praise, do not remain silent, for people who are wicked and deceitful have opened their mouths against me;

they have spoken against me with lying tongues. With words of hatred they surround me; they attack me without cause.

In return for my friendship they accuse me, but I am a man of prayer.

They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my friendship.

Appoint someone evil to oppose my enemy; let an accuser stand at his right hand. When he is tried, let him be found guilty, and may his prayers condemn him. May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership. May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow.
May their sins always remain before the LORD, that he may blot out their name from the earth. For he never thought of doing a kindness, but hounded to death the poor and the needy and the brokenhearted. He loved to pronounce a curse— may it come back on him. He found no pleasure in blessing— may it be far from him.
May this be the LORD’s payment to my accusers, to those who speak evil of me.

But you, Sovereign LORD, help me for your name’s sake; out of the goodness of your love, deliver me. For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.
My knees give way from fasting; my body is thin and gaunt.
Help me, LORD my God; save me according to your unfailing love. Let them know that it is your hand, that you, LORD, have done it.

May my accusers be clothed with disgrace and wrapped in shame as in a cloak.

For he stands at the right hand of the needy, to save their lives from those who would condemn them.” – ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭109:1-9, 15-17, 20-22, 24, 26-27, 29, 31‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“The LORD says to my lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”

The LORD has sworn and will not change his mind: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” The Lord is at your right hand; he will crush kings on the day of his wrath. He will judge the nations, heaping up the dead and crushing the rulers of the whole earth.” – Psalm‬ ‭110:1, 4-6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Prayer fot Today

Lord of my Lord I praise you this morning. The apostle’s quoted Ps 109 when they replaced Judas with Matthias. This is a really scary psalm Lord. It is intense what You will do to Your enemies who false accuse You.

They basically will wear their curses as a cloak, how intense is that and totally wicked (not good as we would say nowadays and have made sin good).

God I know how it feels to be falsely accused and it makes you insecure at times. When you want to do a good job people will see it as meaningless and a poor effort to cover their shortcomings.

God I do know that You uphold the cause of the righteous and fight their case. May it be to them what this Psalm prophesied.

The awesome thing is that they will be Jesus’ my Lord footstool. Praise God, Father I am glad that they are in Your hands and I will not pay retribution.

It really challenges me God that this guy was a guy of fasting and he saw himself as a man of prayer. Seems like he saw that as his weapons of choice, a truly spiritual man.

The challenging thing is also that this guy was a friend to his accuser still.
I pray that I might help the helpless and be kind to the broken-hearted.

Psalm 105-106

“Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.

He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he made, for a thousand generations,
When they were but few in number, few indeed, and strangers in it,
“Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm.”
till what he foretold came to pass, till the word of the LORD proved him true.
The LORD made his people very fruitful; he made them too numerous for their foes, whose hearts he turned to hate his people, to conspire against his servants.
He spread out a cloud as a covering, and a fire to give light at night. They asked, and he brought them quail; he fed them well with the bread of heaven. He opened the rock, and water gushed out; it flowed like a river in the desert. For he remembered his holy promise given to his servant Abraham. He brought out his people with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy; he gave them the lands of the nations, and they fell heir to what others had toiled for— that they might keep his precepts and observe his laws. Praise the LORD.” – Psalm‬ ‭105:1-3, 8, 12, 15, 19, 24-25, 39-45‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

But they soon forgot what he had done and did not wait for his plan to unfold. In the desert they gave in to their craving; in the wilderness they put God to the test. So he gave them what they asked for, but sent a wasting disease among them.
They exchanged their glorious God for an image of a bull, which eats grass. They forgot the God who saved them, who had done great things in Egypt,
So he said he would destroy them— had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him to keep his wrath from destroying them. Then they despised the pleasant land; they did not believe his promise. They grumbled in their tents and did not obey the LORD.
They yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor and ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods;
But Phinehas stood up and intervened, and the plague was checked.
By the waters of Meribah they angered the LORD, and trouble came to Moses because of them; for they rebelled against the Spirit of God, and rash words came from Moses’ lips. They did not destroy the peoples as the LORD had commanded them, but they mingled with the nations and adopted their customs. They worshiped their idols, which became a snare to them. They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to false gods.
They defiled themselves by what they did; by their deeds they prostituted themselves.
He gave them into the hands of the nations, and their foes ruled over them. Their enemies oppressed them and subjected them to their power. Many times he delivered them, but they were bent on rebellion and they wasted away in their sin. Yet he took note of their distress when he heard their cry; for their sake he remembered his covenant and out of his great love he relented. He caused all who held them captive to show them mercy.” – Psalm‬ ‭106:1, 13-15, 20-21, 23-25, 28, 30, 32-37, 39, 41-46‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Pray for Today

Morning Father. It is good to praise You early in the morning. It is also good to remember how good you are to Your people. You truly care for us, feed us, clothe us and listen to us. Father You will always love us, even disciple us to get back to You when we have gone astray. May our hearts be drawn towards You and not towards sin. We exchange You for images and possessions.

Help me to stand in the breach for our South Africans. So many of us are godless or just religious which is just idol worship, we do not worship the real God but has made up a god that fulfills our needs, wants and that suit us. I pray that we might be the ones who always do what is right. I am reading a book about thinking, may our thoughts please you and brings us closer to live in Your Glory which You planned for us. Amen

Psalm 101-104

“I will sing of your love and justice; to you, LORD, I will sing praise. I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will conduct the affairs of my house with a blameless heart.

My eyes will be on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; the one whose walk is blameless will minister to me.” – Psalm‬ ‭101:1-2, 6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Hear my prayer, LORD; let my cry for help come to you. Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress. Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly.
Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the LORD: “The LORD looked down from his sanctuary on high, from heaven he viewed the earth, to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death.” So the name of the LORD will be declared in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem when the peoples and the kingdoms assemble to worship the LORD.
But you remain the same, and your years will never end.” – Psalm‬ ‭102:1-2, 18-22, 27‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Praise the LORD, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children— with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts. The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all. Praise the LORD, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word. Praise the LORD, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will. Praise the LORD, all his works everywhere in his dominion. Praise the LORD, my soul.” – Psalm‬ ‭103:1-5, 8-22‬ ‭NIV

“Praise the LORD, my soul. LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty.
and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind. He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants. He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.
You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth.
The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God.
All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things.
When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground.
I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the LORD.” – Psalm‬ ‭104:1, 3-5, 9, 21, 27-28, 30, 33-34‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Prayer for Today

Lord You are truly everlasting!!! Amazing that the beasts of the field cry out for You to satisfy their hunger. So much more should we. You are the one who takes care of us, not the economy and  not the political party. (although that might be true for some) God my focus should be on You and to do Your will. I pray for the men that I spend some time with yesterday. I pray for their souls. May they thirst for You like the do for fun, beer, laughter, companionship and steaks. I am not worthy to be called Your son, but still You sent Your Son to die for me on the cross. As I need daily sustenance to stay alive physically, how much more do I need spiritual sustenance daily !!! Amen

All people will see His Glory !!!

Today’s Prayer

Morning Father. When I look at the intracacies of the human body I am truly astounded !!! By that a small spider can bite you and upset this system. It comes to show me what balance there is in our bodies. You are in control of everything and I praise you for that. I saw a landslide yesterday with a house perched at the top of it saying “relocating”. That mountain was truly like wax the way it moved across a double highway, and the Bible says the mountains is like wax before you, wowww. The heavens declare your righteousness, looking at the start just blow me away as well. Here on earth we have gone to the moon and it was quite a thing. Now there is plans to go to the next planet on our solar system, what plans goes into that and you have created billions of galaxies 🌌 In my worship I want to do it in gladness of heart, thanksgiving, praise and with shout for joy, burst into jubilant song, make music to the Lord with harp, singing, trumped and rams horn before God the King. Sounds like one big party, does it. I pray that I will always have a party before you God cause You are good news, my life, my purpose my everything!!! Amen

Prayer for Today

Father shoe, You are God and what you decide stands. The Israelites kept going astray even while you showed them your miracles. In your oath you send them to hell because they did not want to repent. I had a vivid dream last night where I struggled, but God you are the one who works in our hearts to keep us close to You. Father being falsely accused is not nice, I dont know what it is like being falsely accused and being condemned to death because of it. It is like I said yesterday to the bus driver, there is situations in the world and then there is God. The the guy on God’s side will win in the end. Help me to cling to you and not see the waves of the sea going up and down. I am in your life jacket that will take me to the secluded island where God’s and His people live. Amen
