A chosen people – Light or Darkness? – 1 of 13

We have often played this game. Two side are chosen with two captains. Now if you get chosen to be the captain that is the best. Then the captains select their team, if you are one of the first say two choices of the captain; you feel awesome. If you are one of the last; you know that people see you as weak in that kind of sports and you don’t feel that great about yourself.

To define Chosen is; the one who is the object of choice or of divine favor : an elect person. Selected or marked for favor or special privilege.

Wow special priviledge, I like that!!!

Chosen the movie has this line. Harvey Keitel: “There is something that is in us, that can make us do extraordinary things”. Jordan Renzo: “They say you were sent by God” Luke Mably :”I am just an ordinary man”.

Let’s see who is chosen by God.

9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. – 1 Pet 2:9-10

There are always two sides with God.

Darkness                                              Light

Not a people of God                             People of God

No Mercy                                                 Receive Mercy

Lost                                                           Saved

Going to Hell                                          Going to Heaven

Not a Christian                                      Christian

Not a Disciple                                         Disciple
Every person is either in the darkness or the light. There is no twilight zone.

Where are you?

If you say you are in the light, what do you base your facts on?

Your timeline might look like this:

1970-Born and get Baptised as a baby.

1975-Become aware of God

1976-Go to Sunday school

1985-Pray Jesus into my heart to get “saved” (sinners prayer)

1987-Do church catacism to get accepted by the church. Pray Jesus into my heart just to make sure.

1988-Get confirmed by the church. Take communion for the first time.

1991-Became a disciple. Get baptised as an adult because it is the right thing to do, compelled by others faith.

1996-Get Baptised for the forgiveness of my sins and receive the Holy Spirit believing that myself.

But what is God’s plan of salvation?

Can you name 5 verses that confirms your plan of salvation that you followed according to the Bible?

Well we will have a look at what God’s plan of salvation is.

Prayer for Today:

Morning Father. Thank you for a new day. Help me to be sure of my salvation. Help me to make sure I was saved according your plan of salvation and not someones opinion that will make me go to hell. I know that I can sincerely believe that I am saved but can be sincerely wrong. Help me to base my salvation on facts not fiction. Amen.

What are you looking for? – Coming of the Kingdom of God and of Heaven – 4C of 4

Are you like Bono of U2And still haven’t found what I am looking for“?

What is there on earth that pulls our heart strings? Money, power, popularity, travel, etc.

Do these things really fulfill us?  Nooo, then movie stars will not commit suicide or overdoze on drugs. They would have lived fulfilled lives and be happy.

So what is the alternative? What should we be looking for according to God?

Let’s have a look at Jesus’ first speech and what He had to say.

33 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” – Mat 6:33

Let’s answer the other two questions of the 6 we asked in the beginning?

5. Is it important to go to church? Yes very!!!
What priority must seeking the kingdom of God (His church – Remember it is an eternal church here on earth) take in your life according to this verse?
It says seek first, so above all else your first priority every day should be to seek God’s Kingdom first.

Are you seeking the kingdom first?

If not, why? Don’t you think it is important to seek God’s kingdom first?

Well God does.

Maybe your priorities is more focussed on the world and not on God.

Is God your first love or a spare wheel?
It also says you should seek God’s righteousness, which mean that your life must be exemplary in God’s eyes.
You cant just seek the kingdom but your life stinks it out.
It also says that all things will be given to you as well. What is that all about?

Well Jesus was talking about food, clothing, etc in the previous verses. Basically He was talking about your daily needs, so God is not distant ito your needs.

The last questioncan be very controversial if you are not serious about the truth.
6. Is it important to which church I go to?
Some people might say; as long as you are happy in your local congregation. Let me illustrate. We all love to drink Coke. Sometimes when you go to the green grocer you get these cheap knockoffs. Well it is something to drink, but not the real good stuff.
Are you a knockoff guy / girl or do you like the real, good quality stuff?
The question begs; that if my church is not like the church of the Bible, is it then the real church? Is it the real deal? Do I settle for second best?

You decide, remember your eternity is at stake. That saying bird of a feather flock together. You become like your 5 closest friends. They are your yardstick for life; who you go to for advice. Are they disciples, are they bringing you closer of further away from God? Some things to ponder.

It all boils down to your character. Do you have conviction about the truth or do you live the lie? Or do you love the darkness more than the light? (Jn 3:19)

Prayer for Today:

Lord I pray that my heart will be inclined to seek your kingdom first. Help me to throw off everything at hinders and the sin I so easily fall into? Help me to be a man of conviction who loves the truth and lives by it every day! Amen.

Keys to the Kingdom – Coming of the Kingdom of God and of Heaven – 3J1 of 4

Why use keys?

We want to keep some things which is valuable to us in and others out; thereby safeguardin out things we consider precious.

We inherited the key concept from Babilon and Egypt using wooden keys. Steel keys were designed by the Romans.

Keys are also a gateway linking one dimesion / room to another.

Watching Smurfs with my daughter, Papa smurf created a wormhole / gateway between their world and ours to escape Gargamel the evil one.

Using the specific key opens the gateway to enter the other dimension.

The same here in the Bible.

19 “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” – Mat 16:19

So here Peter was given the keys to the Kingdom by Jesus. So, he is going to tell us how to get in. We need to pay attention to what Peter says.

Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say.” – Acts 2:14

Here is Peter standing up on Pentecost when the Kingdom was ushered in. Here he explains to them what is happening in the Kingdom.

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” – Acts 2:38

So what was Peters message to enter the Kingdom; when it was ushered in.

So the Keys is as follow:

  1. Repent – From our sin.
    Get BaptizedFull immersion into water.

Why should you repent & get baptized:

  1. For the forgiveness of sin.
  2. And to receive the Holy Spirit.

Amazing that God does not leave us hanging; but direct you how to enter His Kingdom.

So now that you have the Keys to the Kingdom, what will you do with them?

Have you repented and got baptized for the forgiveness of your sin and received the Holy Spirit?

The real question is: Do you believe in the Kingdom of God?

Prayer for Today:

Wow God now I know what the keys to the Kingdom is. Help them to implement them in my life. Amen

Look within!!! – Coming of the Kingdom of God and of Heaven? – 3I1 of 4

Message in a Bottle“, what a great movie. This girl Robin Wright running on the beach finds a bottle with a message in it. She finds a love letter from Kevin Costner to his lost love, missing her. She tracks him down and fall in love in a picxturestique little town by the sea.

But it was really the mesage in the bottle that started her journey. It is not really the bottle that has the value but the message inside.

The message in the bottle, changed her whole life.

Jesus had the same message for us!!! His message was that the Kingdom is inside of us.

20 Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, 21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.” – Luk 17:20-21

So you might ask what is the Kingdom inside of us?

37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”- Acts 2:37-38

So it was not really a change from the outside that changed their lives, the physical kingdom. It was the change from inside, receiving the Holy Spirit at baptism and forgiveness of their sins. It is only the change from inside that brings the permanent change with the help of the Holy Spirit.

So the clue / prophesy became true in that the kingdom within them in the Holy Spirit living in them. (Rom 14:17, 1 Cor 12:7)

Prayer for Today:

Lord truly your Holy Spirit living in us make it possible for us to live according to your word. Help us to search for your kingdom on earth to live the full live you promisedto us. Help us to remember it does not help trying to change things by ourselves, but through your Holy Spirit working in us. Amen.

Reborn – Coming of the Kingdom of God and of Heaven? – 3H of 4

Ahhhh, a new addition to the family!!!

There is the nine months anticipation if he of she will be fine, most by the mother. If it is your first one the father experiences that fear and wonder what it will be like to be a dad.

The grand parent is just so excited to become granpa and grandma, play with their new doll and be able to give them back to their parents when they start crying.

Just so in the kingdom. There is that fear to change and is this really worthwhile. The wonder about how will you future pan out?

Verses for Today:

1 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

3 In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”

4 “How can a man be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb to be born!”

5 Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.'” – Jn 3:1-7

So here we can see that you cannot even see the Kingdom of God if you are not born again.

So Jesus says: to enter the Kingdom of God, you have to be born of the water and the spirit.

Let’s see what Peter said when the kingdom started on Pentecost day.

38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” – Acts 2:38

When your sins are forgiven you are a new man? It is after you repented and got baptized. So baptism is not just a sign but a spirtual reformation. You are spiritually reborn after you get baptized.

Prayer for Today:

Lord listening to the birds in the morning is always so peaceful. They sing to your glory every day. Help me to have that song in my heart that I sing to you every day. Lord if I haven’t been reborn according to your word, I will most probably not spend eternity with you. Help me to be humble toward your words and your plan for my life, if I am not I don’t believe you have my best interests at heart. Help me to study the bible vigorously if I do not agree with other peoples opinion to find out the truth for myself and not just go on someone else opinion. Help me to take responsibility for MY life and base my beliefs on the Bible and not opinions about the Bible. Amen.

In their lifetime!!! Coming of the Kingdom of God and of Heaven? – 3F1-2 of 4

The future, what does it hold? Will I be rich and famous? Will I move to the Caribbean and live on an island? What amazing things will happen in my lifetime? Those are question that haunt us. Look at the insurance companies how much money they make off us!!! Then you understand; that we live in fear what might happen next. The movies like “Judgement Day” and “Armageddon” give us but a grimpse what that end day may be.  Yes and we have lived past judgement day ( smile).

What type of legacy will you leave behind? Like is tough and we always live ourselves into movies. Will your life have a spiritual significance an eternal value? Or do you live for the here and now, without faith?

Verses for today:

And he said to them, “I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power.” – Mark 9:1

So if you look closely, Jesus was talking to the disciples. What is He saying here? That the kingdom will come before all of them taste death, or die. So that means the kingdom will come in their lifetime. It will not be a heavenly kingdom, because they will be able to see it (sorry for you if you were thinking it was a heavenly kingdom).

Now, let see who died before the kingdom came. Remember Jesus said some will taste death before the kingdom come.

18 (With the reward he got for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out. 19 Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) – Acts 1:18-19

Ahh here the prophesy / clue is fulfilled. Judas commits suicide.

And we know from the previous studies that the kingdom came just after this on pentecost day.

So in closing. Are you yet living for and in God’s kingdom here on earth?

Prayer for Today:

Lord I love you word. It fits amazingly together because that is how You orchestrated it. So the disciple saw the kingdom come, how amazing that would have been to live in that time and with Jesus. Most probably scary as well and challenging. Lord help me to build your kingdom and live a life of purpose building an eternal legacy. Amen.

Jerusalem – Coming of the Kingdom of God and of Heaven? – 3C1-2 of 4

Have you ever wanted to go on holiday to that favourite city? Like London, Paris, Orlando (Florida) or Los Angeles (Hollywood). You were quite excited and could not wait. Well today we have something of the sort.

The Jews were waiting for the coming of the kingdom for millenia’s.

Let’s first look at the clue / prophesy:

Verse for Today:

Many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.” The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. – Is 2:3

The clue / prophesy said that the Kingdom will start in Jerusalem.

Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. – Acts 2:5

So here in verse one to four the Holy Spirit is poured out and we know that the Kingdom has come when that happens.

We know that the lasts days was when Jesus and the Kingdom came according to our previos clue / prophesy.

Now they are in Jerusalem, which was also predicted where the Kingdom will come.

44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”
45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” – Luk 24:44-49

Here Jesus reminds the disciples what He has preached earlier. He also direct them to what the signs was; that the Kingdom will come; beginning at Jerusalem. So when you read the heading it is after Jesus was crusified and risen from the dead. The Kingdom clearly did not yet come when Jesus died on the cross and has risen to life. But to understand this scripture we have to understand the significance of the time period that Jesus was saying this clue / prophesy.

Jesus here was speaking in the time period after He was crucified and before He assended into heaven. This has bearance on yje next scripture.

In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. 3 After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” – Acts 1:1-5

Here it was a period of fourty days when He talked on??? No kidding, the Kingdom of God.

And what did He say in the previous passage??? In verse 46 He told us that He had to suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, that happen at this point when He was talking to them.

Next He said that repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached, this has not happened yet at this point. It was another clue about the coming of the Kingdom.

Jesus also said it will start in Jerusalem, fulfilling what the clue / prophesy said.

Then in verse 49 He prophesied that they will be clothed with power from on high; which we know was the Holy Spirit and has happened at this point in verse 4.

In verse 5, Jesus also prophesied that they will be baptised by the Holy Spirit, that happened here.

I hope you get the just of it. A lot of point forward and going back to see what was prophesied.

Prayer for Today:

Lord you predicted and Isaish prophesied that the Kingdom will start in Jerusalem, which it did. There is now so many clues / prophesies that has come true that it is overwhelming and amazing at the same time. When I start putting things together it all makes sense. It is like planning my wedding; and then on the day it all starts coming together. You normally are excited and stressed at the same time, real mixed emotions. Help me to be exited about your kingdom the way you want me to be, because then I understand the reality of it. Amen.

Coming of the Kingdom of God and of Heaven? All nations – 3B1-2 of 4

Verses for Today:

Let’s look at the prophesy / clue:

In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. – Isaiah 2:2

The clue no.2 was that all nations will be present.
Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. – Acts 2:5

So here just before this verse the Holy Spirit was poured out in Jerusalem and we know the Kingdom started when that happened. Here we have Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem.
47 “…and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem – Luk 24:47

Here repentance and forgiveness was preached to all nations. This is where Peter started preaching in verse 14 of Acts 2, just after the Holy Spirit has been poured out.

So we know that representatives from all nations was there when the Kingdom started just as predicted in Isaiah 700 BC.

Prayer for Today:

Lord your timing is perfect even if we do not believe it. Here a prophesy came true 700 years before it happened. Lord you know what the future hold and have our best interests at heart; wanting us to spend eternity in heaven. Help me to believe that when I face hardships and difficult situations. Amen.

Coming of the Kingdom of God and of Heaven?  The Waiting game – 2B7 of 4

Verse for Today:

Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man, 51 who had not consented to their decision and action. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea and he was waiting for the kingdom of God. 52 Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body. – Luk 23:50-52

The waiting game sometimes is agonizing. Whether it is for your wife to get ready or Christmas / holidays that you are looking forward to. It really test your patience and resolve.

It is interesting that God sees patience as love. (1Cor 13:4) Sometimes we ask things of God and God either answers it immediately or we have to wait, the latter normally applies. Do we really trust God that he has our best interest at heart? He says He knew us before we were born, He saw our unformed body. (Ps 139:16-18) Do Ireally believe He is a loving God? The waiting game; test that faith.

I think Joseph was also waiting in anticipation. It says that he was a good and upright man who was not a people pleaser but stood by his principles.

Can you be characterized as someone who does what is right no matter the circumstances?

Well John the baptist said the kingdom is near, Jesus said the same thing. The kingdom did not come when Jesus arrived on the scene. Now Jesus has died and the kingdom is not here yet? Mmmmm.

Clue no. 20 – Joseph of Arimathea was still waiting for the Kingdom when Jesus died.

Prayer for Today:

Lord I know you have my best spiritual interests at heart, not my comfort necessarily otherwise you would not say that I have to deny myself. Waiting in your books is love because love is patient. Help me to entrust myself to you and not look at the circumstances. Lord don’t let my pain make to stop believe in you. Amen.
