What are you devoted to? – Coming of the Kingdom of God and of Heaven – 4A+B of 4

Marriage has lost it’s real meaning in this day and age. Nowadays it is more a romantic notion than a promise to be committed for life to one person.

Life troubles and tribulations will test your resolve of that promise of devotion that you made.

Movies like “Bride Wars” & “Runaway Bride” are if anything focussed on entertainment mindset of being married that only last for a short while based more on emotions if anything than on what marriage really means. Or the focus is on having the greatest partieeee of the year.

Marriage is really about devotion to that one person, let’s look at what that means.

Definition of devotion. : a feeling of strong love or loyalty : the quality of being devoted. : the use of time, money, energy, etc., for a particular purpose.

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. – Acts 2:42.

A. Here the church is the Kingdom of God on earth, established in approximately 33 A.D as we established by affirming the clues / prophesies made in the past.

Let’s have a look at what they were all about:
B. As citizens of the Kingdom and members of the body (the church), we must be devoted to:

  1. Doctrine – What you really believe and practise is in the Bible and not a tradition.
  2. Fellowship – Unity, friendship, band of brothers, doing life together, etc.
  3. Breaking Bread – Eating together & remember the death burial & resurrection through having communion together.
  4. Prayer – Connecting with God through a daily relationship with Him.

So what are you devoted to that has an eternal impact? Or do you just live for the here and now or do you actually have faith?

This was the blueprint of the church. Is your church like this blueprint? If it is not, is it really God’s church?

So let us answer those 6 questions we asked ourselves at the beginning of the study about the kingdom of God and of heaven:

  1. Does the Bible fit together? Absolutely!!! What is the chance of 48 prophesies being fulfilled?  1 person fulfilling 8 prophecies: 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000 1 person fulfilling 48 prophecies: 1 chance in 10 to the 157th power 1 person fulfilling 300+ prophecies: Only Jesus! Start writing down those zero’s if in question.
  2. Did the Kingdom come or is it still to come? It came on the day of Pentecost 33 AD in Jerusalem.
  3. What is the Kingdom? It is God’s church established in 33 AD in Jerusalem.
  4. How do I enter the Kingdom? By repenting of your sin and getiing baptized for the forgiveness of your sin  to receive the indwelling Holy Spirit.

Prayer for Today:

Lord you are the King of Kings and the Lord of Lord. It was amazing to see how the whole treasure hunt came together! How you fulfill all these prophesies! Help me to seek your kingdom here on earth and to find it. Help me to live wholeheartedly to bring you the glory and not to live a selfish life that amounts to nothing eternal in the end. Help me to repent and get baptised for the forgiveness of my sin so I can receive your Holy Spirit! God to be filled with you and living in your strength is soooo worthwhile! Help me to be devoted to the 4 things in the kingdom; doctrine, fellowshi, the breaking of bread and to prayer. Amen.

In their lifetime!!! Coming of the Kingdom of God and of Heaven? – 3F1-2 of 4

The future, what does it hold? Will I be rich and famous? Will I move to the Caribbean and live on an island? What amazing things will happen in my lifetime? Those are question that haunt us. Look at the insurance companies how much money they make off us!!! Then you understand; that we live in fear what might happen next. The movies like “Judgement Day” and “Armageddon” give us but a grimpse what that end day may be.  Yes and we have lived past judgement day ( smile).

What type of legacy will you leave behind? Like is tough and we always live ourselves into movies. Will your life have a spiritual significance an eternal value? Or do you live for the here and now, without faith?

Verses for today:

And he said to them, “I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power.” – Mark 9:1

So if you look closely, Jesus was talking to the disciples. What is He saying here? That the kingdom will come before all of them taste death, or die. So that means the kingdom will come in their lifetime. It will not be a heavenly kingdom, because they will be able to see it (sorry for you if you were thinking it was a heavenly kingdom).

Now, let see who died before the kingdom came. Remember Jesus said some will taste death before the kingdom come.

18 (With the reward he got for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out. 19 Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) – Acts 1:18-19

Ahh here the prophesy / clue is fulfilled. Judas commits suicide.

And we know from the previous studies that the kingdom came just after this on pentecost day.

So in closing. Are you yet living for and in God’s kingdom here on earth?

Prayer for Today:

Lord I love you word. It fits amazingly together because that is how You orchestrated it. So the disciple saw the kingdom come, how amazing that would have been to live in that time and with Jesus. Most probably scary as well and challenging. Lord help me to build your kingdom and live a life of purpose building an eternal legacy. Amen.

Coming of the Kingdom of God and of Heaven?  Keys to the Kingdom – 2B6 of 4

Verse for Today:

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” – Mat 6:13-19

Watching the movie Everest is quite a grueling experience. Few men taking on the mountain that is as high as a commercial airliner flies and you need oxygen to survive. Why are we so facinated by mountains? Maybe it is the will to overcome. Maybe it is to reach something men will respect you for and admire you. God also had a mountain in mind when He wanted to build his church.

Clue no.18 – God will build His church on the rock.

People mistakenly think God wants to build His church on Peter. If you look closer at the Greek translation of Peter you will know that it is “Petros” which mean pebble. The work rock here is “Petra” which means large bed rock. So I think God will build His church on thae large bed rock and not on the pebble.

What was revealed to Peter that was not revealed to other people? That Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. I think Jesus is the rock this passage is referring to.

Clue no.19 – Peter has the keys to the kingdom.

Somwhat do you do with keys? You open things so that people can come in. So it seems that Peter will show us the way how to get into the kingdom.

There seems to be a relationship between the church and the kingdom, interestinggg.

Prayer for Today:

Lord this study is really getting exiting!!! Keys to the kingdom, things revealed that has not before, You building Your kingdom on a rock that is Jesus and hades will not overcome Your kingdom. Lord help me to seek your kingdom out. Help me to fully understand what it is. Help me to search for the key that was given to Peter and understand what it is so that I can unlock the kingdom for myself. Amen.

Coming of the Kingdom of God and of Heaven? Born Again!!! – 2B3 & 4 of 4

Verse for Today:

Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

3 In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”

4 “How can a man be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb to be born!”

5 Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.'” – Jn 3:1-7

A new baby is always exiting, scary and all mixed feelings by the parents. If it is your first born, mom and dad are exited but know that their lives are about to change dramatically. We could not have kids, tried for about 10 years. We went through KI, in-vitro and multiple tries to adopt a baby. Finally we found an agency in Wellington to help us. When you have your first meeting they say you are now pregnant, because you Will get your baby between 9 and 12 months. It was so exiting and scary at the same time. Will we be disappointed again? After a few months you have to write a sociological evaluation when they ask you in 10 different way if you want to commit suicide. At the end of that session when we were about to leave I told our social worker that now I am ready to commit suicide after that test. 🙂

They call you a week in advance and send you a picture of the baby; to find out if you are happy with your child. Then a week after that you go and pick up your child. For us obviously she was born that day. She was four months old at that time because a cangaroo mother has been looking after her for us.  The reason being you have to give the father 90 day to decide if he wants he’s child.

What joys and ovation. Amorie which is a Afrikaans version of Amore, which means love in French came into our lives. She has been born of water into the physical world for us.

So here we have someone being reborn, that is a second time into the spiritual world and that also happens through water and a added bonus the Holy Spirit. That is the way you then enter the kingdom.

So clue no.16 – Kingdom entered by new birth — by water and the Spirit.

Prayer for today:

Lord I want to be part of your kingdom. So, I must be reborn through the water and the Spirit whatever that might mean at this stage. Help me to find out what that means. Help me to live for your eternal kingdom and not get side tracked by the worldliness. Amen.

Missing the mark? And the lake of fire – 7 of 7

Verse for Today:

8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”- Revelation 21:8 | NIV

Growing up me and my brothers love watching movies like; Zorro and the Roman empire. We would then make the weapons or apparel to fit the theme that we watch lately. We would always play in the back yard and make fire and “braai” some meat. One night we were trying to start a fire, so I threw some petrol on it. As I threw on the petrol, it splashed on my brother and he was on fire. So the easiest way to put it out was he rolled in the dirt. Luckily he came away unscathed but with a big scare.

I have never seen a lake of burning sulfur, that must be really intense. To spend eternity there is unimaginable. The closest I can imagine is life imprisonment with no visitation rights.

Now the sin that does not seem so serious is lying. We say: “I just told a little white lie” and think nothing of it. With God it  hardcore because He will send you to hell because of it. So should we not treat it with the same urgency and seriousness that God assigns to it.

The bottom line is we have sinned and needs forgiveness. Will we go to Jesus to be reconciled and go to heaven? Or will we try our luck and see if we can escape the fires of hell?

Prayer for Today:

Lord I am guilty if I look at this sin list. I know I cannot save myself, I will not even know where to start. Help me to see the seriousness of sin and treat it that way. Help me to be self aware about my life. Amen.

Missing the mark? What is amiss? – 5 of 7

Verse for Today:

Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins. – Jms 4:17

Ever felt that something is amiss in your life? What about that trip overseas? Or maybe that true love?

We are in the business of instant results. McDonalds base their business on that principle. Instant gratification takes away an important principle; anything worthwhile takes time and effort. That brings another principle into play, discipline might seem like a curse word. If we consistently do the right thing, that will bear fruit. It is like the Bible says, all hard work brings a profit.

So what does this verse say?

The things we know in the backs of our minds, that is the good things to do. We either too lazy to do them or we are not self aware.

Lets think a bit about examples. Spending quality time with your kids, phoning your parents often, reading your Bible every day, sharing your faith and praying every day.

The bible says if we know what is the good thing to do and dont do it, it is sin. So not doing the good is sin. Challenging!!

What is the good you can start doing? Put it on your to do list and work at it every day.

Prayer for today:

Lord we fall so short of this verse because there is just so much we can do in this world. Help us to be discipline and make plans to incorporate the good into our lives. We are loved by God and we can share that love with people. Amen.

What is my Purpose and Destiny? – Go!!! – 7 of 7

Verse for Today:

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Mat 28:18-20

What will you say on your last words before you leave the earth?

“I have offended God and mankind because my work did not reach the quality it should have.” – Leonardo da Vinci

One never knows the ending. One has to die to know exactly what happens after death, although Catholics have their hopes.” – Alfred Hitchcock

Jesus commanding us to go and make disciples?

Growing up religiously I was your normal “christian”. Go to church twice on Sundays, sing in the choir and attend a Bible Study during the week. The first time someone called me to be a disciple I was sad, because none of my preachers called me to do so. It just showed me the the sad state of religion in the world.

Jesus Commands us to make disciples (given to all). Going back to our first section of this study you will remember that we did a conparison between the worlds view of a “christian” and a disciple. We said Christian = Disciple = Saved. As a religios person I never before someone studied with me; went and made disciples. Was Jesus serious when He said that? Jesus made his followers disciples that changed the world. Would you like to change the world for a better one eternally?

Who is a candidate for baptism? A person who makes the decision to be a disciple.

You need someone to disciple you to maturity in Christ. When is the last time you sat with someone and talked about your life?

This is the only way to save the world!

Comparison between a preacher and a disciple numerically:

Year  – Preacher – Disciple

1 – Preachers makes 365 followers – One disciple makes one disciple

2 – Preacher makes another 365 followers now they are 730 – Two disciples makes two disciples, now they are 4

3 – 1,095 – 8

13 – 4,745 – 8,192 – The disciples overtake the followers

33 – 12,045 – The world, 10 billion plus

So if you understand exponential maths you can see God has the better plan.

  1. Find someone who makes disciples.
  2. Study out what it means and become a disciple.
  3. Study out baptism and what it means, then get baptised.
  4. Find someone who will teach you to obey everything God commanded.

Prayer for today:

Jesus I really want to become a disciple and follow you. Help me to find the right person to help me become a disciple. Amen

What is My Hope, Plans & Future? – Part 6 of 8

Hope is an optimistic state of mind that is based on an expectation of positive outcomes with respect to events and circumstances in one’s life or the world at large. An expectation with confidence or to cherish a desire with anticipation – Wikipedia

A Plan is the process of thinking about the activities required to achieve a desired goal in the Future. – Wikipedia

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”

Jeremiah 29:11-14 | NIV

“It is comforting to know that everything God sends is the best possible thing for me. Nothing can derail his plan.”

It is easy to have a plan but is it God’s plan?

So the points are:

  1. God has an individual plan for my life.
  2. That plan is to prosper me — with hope and a future.
  3. I will find God when I seek Him with all my heart.

There is always hope!!! Even if you feel like you are on a deserted island in the middle of the sea !!!

Castaway Clip

A thought about 2017, you might feel like Tom.

There is however always hope in God that He might bring relief in the new year of 2018 in a way that you will not have anticipated according to your rational thinking.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.””
