Coming of the Kingdom of God and of Heaven? All nations – 3B1-2 of 4

Verses for Today:

Let’s look at the prophesy / clue:

In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. – Isaiah 2:2

The clue no.2 was that all nations will be present.
Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. – Acts 2:5

So here just before this verse the Holy Spirit was poured out in Jerusalem and we know the Kingdom started when that happened. Here we have Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem.
47 “…and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem – Luk 24:47

Here repentance and forgiveness was preached to all nations. This is where Peter started preaching in verse 14 of Acts 2, just after the Holy Spirit has been poured out.

So we know that representatives from all nations was there when the Kingdom started just as predicted in Isaiah 700 BC.

Prayer for Today:

Lord your timing is perfect even if we do not believe it. Here a prophesy came true 700 years before it happened. Lord you know what the future hold and have our best interests at heart; wanting us to spend eternity in heaven. Help me to believe that when I face hardships and difficult situations. Amen.

Coming of the Kingdom of God and of Heaven? It’s not inside!!! – 2B5 of 4

Verse for Today:

Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, 21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.” – Luk 17:20-21

Well dependant on your age; I don’t know if you remembered the Cremora add? They had this guy looking for the Cremora the coffee creamer in the freezer, his line was: “Bill: Anne there is no Cremora in the refrigerator!! Anne: It’s not inside it is on top. Bill: It’s not insideeee!!! It is onnn top”. Very funny and memorable. Now what has the kingdom to do with a coffee creamer.

Well in this instance it is the other way around. It is not onnnnn top, it is insideeee!

Clue no.17 – The Kingdom of God is within you.

Mmm that is a bit confusing, I wonder what that is about?

Prayer for Today:

Lord this is a bit confusing. It is not here or there, it is inside you. So Lord what will be inside me and what does that mean? I am looking forward to find out. Amen.

Coming of the Kingdom of God and of Heaven? What is Truth?– 2B2 of 4

Verse for Today

And he said to them, “I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power.” – Mark 9:1

Telling the truth is not always easy, people tend to lie. They think they will hurt the other person or themselves by telling the truth. So in essence your wear a mask, almost like a super hero but one of the evil one. God reference satan when He is talking about lying, calling him the father of lies. So if you lie often; you are just like the devil. If you tell people the truth, you imitate Jesus. So are you more like Jesus of the devil?

What is your view of something powerful? A hurricane, tsunami or a flood? Or is it a super hero of some kind?

Clue no. 13 – Kingdom will come in the lifetime of some of the disciples.

Clue no. 14 – They will see it, it is not a heavenly kingdom.

Clue no. 15 – It will come with Power.

Prayer for Today:

Lord it is so amazing to learn about the Kingdom!!! You said it will come with power, how exciting!!! What is that power I wonder? I am looking forward to finding out! Amen

Coming of the Kingdom of God and of Heaven? The Statue of Gold, Silver, Bronze, Iron & Clay – 1B of 4

Verse for today:

You looked, O king, and there before you stood a large statue — an enormous, dazzling statue, awesome in appearance. 32 The head of the statue was made of pure gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, 33 its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of baked clay. 34 While you were watching, a rock was cut out, but not by human hands. It struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay and smashed them. 35 Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold were broken to pieces at the same time and became like chaff on a threshing floor in the summer. The wind swept them away without leaving a trace. But the rock that struck the statue became a huge mountain and filled the whole earth.
36 “This was the dream, and now we will interpret it to the king. 37 You, O king, are the king of kings. The God of heaven has given you dominion and power and might and glory; 38 in your hands he has placed mankind and the beasts of the field and the birds of the air. Wherever they live, he has made you ruler over them all. You are that head of gold.

39 “After you, another kingdom will rise, inferior to yours. Next, a third kingdom, one of bronze, will rule over the whole earth. 40 Finally, there will be a fourth kingdom, strong as iron — for iron breaks and smashes everything — and as iron breaks things to pieces, so it will crush and break all the others. 41 Just as you saw that the feet and toes were partly of baked clay and partly of iron, so this will be a divided kingdom; yet it will have some of the strength of iron in it, even as you saw iron mixed with clay. 42 As the toes were partly iron and partly clay, so this kingdom will be partly strong and partly brittle. 43 And just as you saw the iron mixed with baked clay, so the people will be a mixture and will not remain united, any more than iron mixes with clay.

44 “In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever. 45 This is the meaning of the vision of the rock cut out of a mountain, but not by human hands — a rock that broke the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold to pieces.

“The great God has shown the king what will take place in the future. The dream is true and the interpretation is trustworthy.” – Dan 2:31-45

Earlier in Daniel 2 King Nebuchadnezzer threatens death to all his astrologers and dream interpreters if they do not first tell him his dream, then interpret it.

Daniel interprets King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream

The Empires Respresents:

  1. Babylonian: gold
  2. Medo-Persian: silver
  3. Alexander the Great: bronze
  4. Roman: iron (iron and clay)
  5. Rock becomes a Kingdom mountain — Cut out not by human hands (therefore God)

Rock that becomes a huge mountain — filled the whole earth.

The rock is the Kingdom that will never be destroyed (v. 44)

Prayer for Today:

Morning Lord. I can see that you have a plan in eternity for us. Your plan plays out through the ages. Thank you that you have a plan for me to find you and live as a disciple. Help me to deepen my bible study to learn more about You and your Kingdom. Amen.

Missing the mark? Totally Wicked!!! – 3 of 7

Verse for Today:

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. – Gal 5:19-21

Ever watched a scary movie? The women is walking down this corridor and all of a sudden this omnious beast appears out of nowhere and starts to chase her down the corridor. By now your heart is racing and you are sitting with your head below the blankie. Or funny enough two of my friend when they are watching a scary movies; one closes her eyes and the other one closes her ears in the scary scenes. It is true sometimes the sound is scarier than the situation. We watched hound of dracula at the high scholl when we were young and all the way home on my brothers carier I was scouting the scies for bats that was following us. We never got home so fast from school ever.

Now reading this verse is like watching a scary movie. It is like the picture I added a person taking off his mask and revealing the real person. These are the things we see on the news all the time and are ignore in our lives every day. If someone were to give you the best drink they have ever drunk, but they tell you there is poison in it. Would you drink it? No of course not, but in our own lives we swollow these sins hook, line and sinker. It is like someone said God made all the top 10 fun stuff sin and is trying to spoil our fun.

Getting drunk might be fun, but when you are standing at a funeral with regret on killing your friends in a car crash when you were drunk hits home only after the fact. Then the fun in retrospect was foolishness. So God does not want to spoil our fun; He wants us to enjoy life responsibly. If one of your friends rock up at a party with a lot of drinks, you would think he is really cool. That is what Jesus did at a party, he made 750 bottles of wine; turning the water into wine.

I am not going to spoil your fun in doing the research for you one what each of these sins means. If you really care about your life and the people around you, you would study out this thoroughly. If is like going on a hike and study out all the possible dangers you can face. Then prepping and kitting yourself up to face the facts.

I have studied out these sins thouroughly. The best way to do it is to use a dictionary and first get the meaning of the word. Second you can write how you can commit this sin. Thirdly you can write how you can avoid from doing this sin. Lastly you can ask your spiritual leader, what he has seen in your life and that you can work on. One of my friends suggested that you start studying out lazyness for a year in the Bible; very convicting.

So Steven Covey in his book “Seven habits of highly effective people” has one habit stating “You start with the end in mind”. The Bible say that if you live like this you will not go to heaven. Do you live with the end in mind?

Prayer:

Lord this is heavy. To see myself in the mirror and see the reeal me. Please give me the courage to face myself and make drastic changes if need be. Lord I know some people would not want to be my friends after this but I can make new and better friends. I know you will bless my decision to be righteous. Amen.

Missing the mark? All of us – 2 of 7

Verse for Today:

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25 God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished.” – Rom 3:23-25

Have you ever lost a race? You felt disappointed and discouraged! The one time I was doing a long distance race around the track. I was with the pack on the first round leading them, but as I crossed the 200 m mark on the second round I knew I was coming in last and I stopped the race. When you realize you will not cut it or are not up to standard you loose hope and all motivation fades away.

When we stand before God honestly we realize we will not make the cut due to our sin. Someone gave me an illustration which I think is quite fitting. Near Capetown there is an island we call Robben Island which was named after all the Rob sea animal that was found on it. It is located 6,9 km from the coast. No myself and your normal blokes will try to swim in the icy cold water of the Atlantic ocean from Robben Island (Which was used to house prisoners which Nelson Mandela was one of the prisoners of Apartheid, which the British established in South Africa when they came here to take over the land) to the shore. Now lets say I try and get 1 km far before I drown. Then Joe comes along and he swims halway 3 km and he drowns. Now there was a super dooper fit prisoner that swam but he drowned in the waves just before the beach. Is thre any difference between any of us in reaching our goal? Surely not. The same with our sin. Maybe you are the good guy / girl who has done everything right in his life but that one time the traffic cop caught you speeding when you were late for work and you had to pay the fine, is like the guy who got to the waves and drowned. But still you will fall short before God.

We are figuratively all in the same boat as Noah. God brought judgement on the generation of Noah because “every inclination of their minds was only evil all the time” – Gen 6:5. None of us will be found righteous before God without His sons sacrifice on the cross.

Who has sinned? Everyone

Person A Big Sin

Person B Medium Sin

Person C Small Sin

Who is further away from God: a person who sins a little, or a person who sins a lot? All are equal, all lost. Therefore a good moral life does not save you. You cannot earn your salvation by your good deeds.

Faith in the blood of Jesus saves you (v. 25).

So in short our good moral live will not take us to heaven only the blood of Jesus.

Prayer for Today:

Lord, we know we fall short and that You sent your Son for that very reason to die for us on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins and that we can stand before you God on judgement day because of Your Son’s sacrifice. Help us to understand that a good moral life will not save us as depicted by the world. Jesus did say He is the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Him. Help us to humble ourselves and accept we need your forgiveness. Help us to be serious about it and not delay. Amen

What is my Purpose and Destiny? – Talking to God – 5 of 7

Verse for Today:

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”2 He said to them, “When you pray, say: “‘Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. 3 Give us each day our daily bread. 4 Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.'” – Luk 11:1-4

Can you remember those sleepovers at your friends house? You used to hire one of those suitcase video machines and watch movies all night long. Afterwards you would have chatted into the early morning times while you had your midnight feast. Or going camping lying in your tents and talk about the glory days.

Prayer in a sense is just a conversation with God. But having a conversation with your friends is miles different that have a conversation with God. You did not get to be in your profession with some internship or training. Same with prayer; it is best to learn it from those who have practised and learned it for a long time.

I think the attitude here is one of humility and learning to be the best for God. That is an attitude yiu need to have for your rest of your life or you will never grow and leave God. It is pride that got the devil kicked out of heaven. Do you have the humility to ask for help?

Practicals:

You must learn to pray — disciples saw the strength Jesus received from the Father.

Daily personal relationship with God (v. 3); daily prayer. Image not talking to your wife or girlfriend not for a day. They will be worried. My daughter did not want to pray yesterday. So I asked her how must Jesus  must feel when she does not want to talk to Him (she calls Him her Father), very cute. Afterr a while she prayed. I think our prayer should be that personal!

What I do most of the time is to write my prayers in a journal. It make it so much more personal and then you can go back and see how God answered your prayers. Remember the reason we have Psalms is that David and the sons of Korah wrote down their prayers.

There is a guy who lived in the middle ages, they call him brother Lorance. What he used to do is pray one sentence prayers throughout the day. So that keeps it simple and you are in a sense walking with God throughout the day.

There is a bit of a of a format here in Jesus’ prayer. They call it ACTS, like the book of the Bible.

A – Adoration: To praise God. Think of all His attributed or nature that He created.

C – Confession: Know where you are missing the mark? Confess that and ask God for help.

T – Thanksgiving – This one should not be difficult. Praise God for all your blessings.

S – Suplication – Asking God for stuff. We are really good at this one.

When you follow the template it will give you some structure and ideas. You can even write your ideas at the back of your journal and pray accordingly or use as a reference.

Prayer for Today:

Dad help me to have a great prayer life / relationship with you. Help to be consistent every day.

What is my Purpose and Destiny? – Consider the Cost – 4 of 7

Verse for Today:

Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters — yes, even his own life — he cannot be my disciple. 27 And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.
28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it? 29 For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, 30 saying, ‘This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.’
31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Will he not first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.” – Luk 14:25-33

In my line of work you have to calculate the cost of buildings all the time. You even have to do a feasability to see if you will make money with the project. You most probably have seen that half built house that is the laughing stock of the town stand there. Sometimes we are very enthusiastic about to start something but lack the determination to complete it. We did not determine up front the magnitude of our decision and resolved to do it.

Hate is a strong word. Most conflicts in the world today stems from hate. It is such a destructive emotion that destroys relationships. Now out of the ordinary Jesus calls us to to everything except Him. Why would He do that? If you put everything in an eternal perspective what really matter is if you, yourself go to heaven. No relationship, even your own life should deter you from loving God. It is thee pinnacle of all prioroties. Jesus makes it a condition to be a disciple.

The other condition we have seen in the previous verse is that if you do not carry your cross, you cannot be a disciple as well. Seems a bit harsh when Jesus says that. What if your work was optional, would you have gone? No, I dont think so. So some things in life is non negotiable.

When you strategize against an opponent you take into consideration their strength, resources, influence, etc. You are stupid if you take on an enemy that is stronger than you because he will crush you due to your ignorance and stubbornness.  Do we really think we stand a chance against God? Do we measure up to Him? If not you just need to submit and get with the program.
Are you willing and do you give up everything you have on a daily basis to follow Jesus? That most probably is the biggest call.

Practicals:

  • Prioritise your life.
  • Plan God into your day, it does not happen automatically.
  • Determine what you have to give up.
  • Building your life does not happen in a day, you have to resolve every day.
  • Just let go of the peanuts, they will burn up anyway. Trust God that He will look after you.

Prayer for Today:

Lord help me to love you wholeheartedly. Help me to see life in perspective. I pray that I will give up everything everyday to you. Amen

What is my Purpose and Destiny? – Fisherman? – 2 of 7

Verse for Today:

14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!” 16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” 18 At once they left their nets and followed him. – Mrk 1:14-18

How did you receive your calling to to your current job? Was it a friend who hanged out with you in the part? We all receive a calling to do a job, whether that is an interview you had or you had this great idea of a passion you always wanted to pursue. Needless to say it changes you, takes you places (took me over the word to different cities) it makes you meet weird and wonderful people.

Here Jesus calls His first disciples. He says first of all to follow Him. So what does that mean?

Follow – To come or go after; proceed behind. To accept the guidance, command, or leadership of someone. To engage in (a trade or occupation); work at.

Ok so they were fishermen. So when Jesus calls them from a worldly endeavour to a spiritual endeavour. Jesus gave these first disciples the real purpose for living to fish for people for God.

Why would God want people to be caught by Him. To follow in His footsteps, do what He does and love up on people torestore  their relationship with Him.

Would you want to follow Jesus? Would you give up your worldly dreams to follow Him and what He wants for your life with the goal of living eternally with God?

Francis Chan compared eternity with a piece of rope illustration. Imagine having a piece of rope that goes on forever. Now there is a little piece of say 5 mm long that is colored red. Life on earth is the piece of red rope. We focus on the little 5 mm and foget the rest of the rope that goes on for eternity.

Do you get the illustration?  If you do you would follow Jesus Immediately, because you get it. Are you concerned about your future? Do you plan for the future? Do you plan for retirement? Do you plan for your eternity? What is your plan of action? Do you have a spiritual plan?

So the first thing a disciple do is follow Jesus. That entails becoming a disciple by being a fisher of men. Do you know how to be a fisher of men?

Prayer for Today:

Lord thank you that you came to restore my relationship with you. Help me to follow You. Help me to live as a disciple by being a fisher of me. Help me to make it a priority in my life because that show if I really believe and have faith in God. Amen
